Balwin Cycling

Balwin Properties support local cycling events hosted by Cycling South Africa at Thaba Eco Lifestyle Centre and Thaba Trails, in support of the fantastic work that they are doing for the young cyclists in South Africa, with a variety of events being hosted from XCC, XCO, EDR and XCM.

Both Regional and National events have been hosted as well as the AFCON in 2023.

The trails are well maintained cut specifically for each event, offering riders the ability to enjoy challenging trails and fantastic scenery including wildlife while out on the course.

The trails are open to riders of all levels from beginners who want to learn to ride, to the more experienced rider training for bigger events around the country and internationally, with a variety of tracks available from 5km, 10km, 25km and 40km offering available for all skill levels.

Bicycle rentals and repairs are also available.

Balwin Padel

Balwin Properties has recognised the growth of padel internationally as well as in South Africa and continues to build and create padel facilities around its residential developments - in order to bring the worlds fastest growing sport to its residents and surrounding communities.

Indoor and Outdoor facilities have been built at various venues around South Africa including Thaba Eco Lifestyle Centre (JHB South), Mooikloof Smart City (PTA East) and Munyaka (Waterfall) and are managed for Balwin Properties by Balwin Padel. Look out for our exciting new indoor venues being built in Shongweni (KZN), De Buurt (CPT) and Izinga (KZN)

Residents of the adjacent estate are offered discounted rates, and the surrounding community is afforded access to the best padel facilities in South Africa.

Balwin Running

Balwin Sport has become a household name in the running community through the support of a number of running clubs and their respective races in the areas around where we have property developments, including the Wild Joburg Trail run at Thaba Trails, the Balwin Run Series, consisting of 4 races in each city where Balwin is present, the False Bay 50 in the Western Cape and the Umhlanga Rocks Run.

We are also the presenting partner at monthly runs for the local community in Umhlanga, with the Umhlanga Pearls Nite Run & Walk and the Monthly Rock Up and Run in Ballito, all benefitting the Balwin Residents and the local communities, while both raising funds for fantastic causes.

The Balwin Run Series has grown to over 30,000 participants across the 4 races with Balwin Sport helping the host clubs put together some of the most popular races in the country, allowing the clubs to raise funds for their development programs and support runners without the means to be able to participate and achieve their goals. The Series encourages runners who participate to visit the Balwin developments nationwide for the chance to win a fully furnished apartment, thereby changing a runner's life for ever.

Balwin Soccer

As part of Balwin’s commitment to unearthing talent and giving those who don’t have the means the ability to benefit from great coaching, training programs are being rolled out at each of the Balwin developments with a soccer field, allowing the residents’ kids the opportunity to receive a free training session once a week, from top class coaches, right within the developments themselves, encouraging kids to get out of the apartments and get fit and healthy in the outdoors and to play with their respective neighbours.

This is a value add specifically to benefit our residents and their kids, who don’t all have the opportunities to participate in coordinated sporting programs and benefit from great coaching.

We also partner with selected development programs that support the local communities in and around our developments to help make an impact on the surrounding communities.

Balwin Swimming

Safety around water is a valuable life skill that many are not provided with. Balwin has taken on the challenge of teaching as many of our residents, staff and surrounding communities how to swim and be safe around water.

Through the utilization of our existing swimming pools and lagoons in the developments, as well as community pools and swim schools in the local area, we have taught over 1,000 people to swim.

Not only are we teaching people to swim, but we are also teaching the teacher, by empowering our lifeguards to become Learn to Swim instructors, thereby providing them with employment opportunities throughout the year, when the pools are normally closed for the colder months. This eco system provides employment, education, training and provides lifesaving skills to many.

Open Water swimming events are also hosted in our lagoons, serving as qualifiers for Midmar Mile, providing swimmers with clear, clean open water facilities.

Message from Balwin Sport

Balwin Sport is the brainchild and dream of our CEO, Steve Brooks, whose dream it was to connect property to his love for the power of sport, with a goal of promoting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle for our clients and staff, while creating sports development opportunities and growing the Balwin brand.

Balwin Sport forms a vital part of Balwin Properties brand awareness and also serves an important role in support of the Beyond Bricks Foundation, through the Sport Development Pillar, with a focus on creating opportunities for champions and support of local clubs and communities in Running (Road & Trail), Cycling (Road & Trail), Soccer, Swimming, Basketball, Chess and the globally popular Padel.

We have been involved in and run successful events, including the Balwin Run Series, Ultimate Athlete, Breast Intentions Colour Run, False Bay 50|10, various MTB events with Cycling South Africa and Gauteng Cycling, Trail running races in Wild Joburg, the Umhlanga Rocks Run and the Monthly Rock Up and Run & Umhlanga Pearls Nite Run, plus qualifiers for the Midmar Mile and Open Water Swimming events in the lagoons in our developments.

We will continue to provide sporting facilities and opportunities to our residents, staff and surrounding communities to encourage movement and access to sport.
